The St Andrews Environmental Network (StAndEN) has moved! We are excited to announce that the charity will now have a full-time presence in the centre of St Andrews. Following several unsuccessful attempts to obtain St Mary’s Place, we have secured a significant shop front location at 40 Kinnessburn Road (formerly a site of Ladbrokes). These new premises will provide a base for many environmental projects supporting the local community.
StAndEN launched in 2010, initially providing energy efficiency advice to residents in St Andrews and the wider North East Fife community. We began with the mission of reducing carbon emissions and cutting household bills. Currently, we have eleven environmental projects running: four around energy efficiency and renewables, three sustainability projects focusing on going plastic-free and reusing, three community-based projects including gardening and beach wheelchairs, and our award-winning Clean and Green project.
This new Eco Hub will allow the charity to centralise all projects and provide a base for operations. We plan to adapt the building to include a new plastic-free eco shop, a relaxed advice area where staff can provide practical advice on becoming more sustainable, and a vibrant garden space ideal for events.
The Hub will allow StAndEN to host various events, workshops, and training, all under one roof. St Andrews Environmental Network’s General Manager, Jane Kell, said, “We’re very excited to have these dedicated premises for our new Eco Hub. The Hub has been in the pipeline for some time; however, issues around our asset transfer of St Mary’s Place and the Pandemic almost put these plans into jeopardy. I believe the Eco Hub will be a great resource that the community can use 7-days a week, whether it’s for purchasing plastic-free goods, seeking tailored energy saving advice or looking for advice on reducing their carbon footprint. I cannot wait to welcome everyone to our new home!”
The Eco Hub will be opening its doors in Spring 2022. If you want to find out more or get involved with any of our projects, please visit www.standrewsenvironmental.org or call us on 01334 237950.
